2018 Midwest Regional Conference

Making Community

November 1-2
Hosted by University of Kentucky, Lexington KY

The theme of the gathering MAKING COMMUNITY invites speculative and developmental ideas on the topics of both MAKING and COMMUNITY.  The conference committee envisions a rich series of engagements for participants including traditional presentations, digital and physical posters, conversation groups, and more.

Join us in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, at the brand new addition to the University of Kentucky $200 million Gatton Student Center, which marries the original 1938 building to a state of the art complex which will serve as our home base for the 2- day conference, Nov 1 and 2nd. Our theme this year is Making Community, where we celebrate how interior design brings together craft and technology with the past and the future.  Along with peer reviewed presentations, our keynote speakers will be Chris Stulpin, VP of Chief Creative Officer from Tarkett and Eileen Jones, LEED AP, AIGA, SEGD, principal and Branded Environments Global Leader of Perkins & Will. Included in the conference will be a lovely supper at a historic southern home, a walking tour of the sights of Lexington, a bourbon tasting tour of the nearby Distillery District. On Friday, there will be a presentation on Designing for the 21st student and a special CEU will be presented on the Town Branch project in Lexington where we will learn how the new park will transform acres of asphalt into an unprecedented signature park in the heart of downtown.

  • Cost for the conference is $140 for members, $175 for non-members.
  • A one-day rate is $75 for members and $100 for non-members; each day includes 4 CEU’s.
  • Individual CEU’s for Thursday keynote will be $20 which includes community dinner, and $30 for Friday afternoon Keynote CEUs and distillery tour on Friday afternoon.
