Annual Awards

 

The Interior Design Educator's Council (IDEC) values the recognition of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service from both its own membership and the larger international design community. IDEC accepts award nominations in the following categories:

Awards include:

Awards are distributed based on documented excellence and are thus not automatically awarded each year. Nominations for each award are due October 15, 2016, and will be presented at the 2017 Annual Conference in Chicago. We will start accepting nominations via this page on August 8.

SERVICE AWARD

The Service Award recognizes the volunteers serving IDEC. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate a person for a Service Award.

 

MERIT AWARD

The Merit Award honors meritorious service by an IDEC member or non-member to the Interior Design Educators Council or interior design education. It is intended to recognize sustained and notable contributions over and above that expected by virtue of appointment or relationship to IDEC. Priority will be given to recognizing meritorious contributions to IDEC.

 

PRESIDENTIAL AWARD

The Presidential Award honors meritorious service by an IDEC member or non-member to the Interior Design Educators Council or interior design education. It is intended to recognize sustained and notable contributions over and above that expected by virtue of appointment or relationship to IDEC. This award is given at the discretion of the acting President in consultation with the Executive Board.

ARNOLD P. FRIEDMANN EDUCATOR OF DISTINCTION

The Arnold P. Friedmann Educator of Distinction award, initiated in 2011, is presented to an IDEC member in recognition of significant, sustained, and distinguished contributions in interior design education. Click here for a list of previous winners.

TEACHING EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Teaching Excellence Award recognizes an individual’s or team's success in the development and delivery of a specific educational experience that yields exceptional student learning. Any IDEC member in good standing can make a nomination for the IDEC Teaching Excellence Award. Individuals may not self-nominate.

 

SCHOLARSHIP EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Excellence in Scholarship Award recognizes an individual’s or team's distinguished achievement in the area of scholarship as it relates to the interior environment and its contribution to the discipline of interior design. Any IDEC member in good standing can make a nomination for this award. Individuals may not self-nominate.

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

The IDEC Community Service Award recognizes and honors significant contribution of community service by an individual or group at a national, regional, and/or local level associated with the discipline of interior design. Service can include a variety of activities including but not limited to: making a difference to a community or special needs group, service-learning projects that build the awareness and value of interior design, efforts in the advancement and dedication to the promotion of IDEC, effort in the advancement of interior design education or design scholarship, or an activity demonstrating significant community engagement. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate an individual or group for the IDEC Community Service Award. Candidates may self-nominate.

 

BOOK AWARD

Award(s) are given for recognition of the content of an outstanding book that exhibits excellence in addressing issues of the discipline of interior design including practice, research, and education. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate an individual or entity for the IDEC Book Award.

 

MEDIA AWARD

Award(s) are given for recognition of the content of an outstanding media piece that exhibits excellence in addressing issues of the discipline of interior design including practice, research, and education. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate an individual or entity for the IDEC Media Award.

 

PARTNERS IN EDUCATION AWARD

The Partners in Education Award recognizes and honors significant contributions to IDEC and/or interior design education by any entity (e.g., design firm, industry, organization, institution) or individual at an international, national and/or regional level. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate an individual or entity for the IDEC Partners in Education Award.

 

INDUSTRY MERIT AWARD

The Industry Merit Award recognizes and honors significant contributions to IDEC, interior design education, and/or interior design by industry at a national and/or regional level. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate a person or firm for an Industry Merit Award.

 

INSTITUTION MERIT AWARD

The Institution Merit Award recognizes and honors significant and sustained contributions to IDEC, interior design education, and/or interior design by an educational institution (e.g., community college, college, university) at a national and/or regional level. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate an institution for an Institution Merit Award. Candidates can self-nominate.
