IDEC Position Statements

During the Annual Business Meeting at the IDEC Annual Conference in Montreal, the membership passed two motions that support the development of IDEC position statements that 1) embrace interior design as a distinctive profession, and 2) identifies CIDA as the accrediting agency for interior design programs.  The IDEC Board of Directors will be meeting via conference call on April 4th to discuss proposed position statement(s).  Shortly thereafter, the proposed statements will be posted on the IDEC web site and members will have the opportunity to provide feedback through blogging features.  Based upon the members’ comments, position statement(s) will be adopted.  Members will be notified as to when the proposed position statements are posted.

Discussions with Regard to Interior Design, Interior Architecture, and Architecture

As you may be aware, discussions regarding varying definitions and directions of programs offering architecture, interior design, and interior architecture programs have occurred by various organizations.  As a result, Ted Landsmark, former president of ACSA and current president of Boston Architectural College and Michaele Pride of The University of Cincinnati will convene a group of educators and other representatives to have a dialogue regarding the distinctive characteristics (as well as related aspects) pertaining to interior design, interior architecture and architecture.  As past-president of IDEC, I will be in attendance at this dialogue to be held in Cincinnati May 4th and 5th, 2008.  Dave Harrison, IDEC Director of Development, and Shari Park-Gates, IDEC Director of Membership & Communications will also be in attendance.
