| Welcome to IDEC eNEWS |
This is the first edition
of a communications vehicle that you, as
a member of IDEC, will be receiving at least
monthly. The eNews will be assembled on a
regular basis in an effort to let you know
what is happening throughout the organization
and what you can anticipate in the coming
days, weeks, and months.
While the IDEC e-RECORD will look backward and celebrate the
accomplishments of the organization and it's members, the IDEC
eNEWS will be forward looking, keeping you informed of important
events and opportunities
that you will not want to miss. It will be a place where you
can learn about beneficial conferences, calls for abstract submissions,
as well as other
information that is critical to your career journey as an interior
design educator. It is not intended to replace the memberships
use of Yahoo! List
serve! It will however, focus on benefiting the whole organization.
Enjoy!

| Election
of New Board of Directors |
If you are a professional member of IDEC, your list of member
benefits include the right to vote for your representation on the Executive
Board of Directors. By now you should have received a ballot and biographies
of a slate of excellent candidates for the open chairs of the Board of
Directors. If you are a professional member and have not received your
voting package, please call the IDEC office and let us know. If you have
received the information, please fax back your ballot as soon as possible.
The last day to vote is October 27, 2006.

| Professional
Members vote on By-Law Revisions |
Because IDEC wishes to embrace all individuals that support or
participate in interior design education, the Board of Directors is asking
all members with voting privileges to affirm or not affirm a revision to
the organizational by-laws allowing Part Time/Adjuncts to become members
of IDEC. The membership categories will include Industry Affiliate Membership
which allows for industry allies interested in interior design education
and the activities of IDEC. An additional category of membership that would
be added is that of Educator Affiliate Member in which part-time faculty/instructors
teaching in interior design or interior design related disciplines would
be permitted and encouraged to join the ranks of IDEC. Specific benefits
of each category can be found in the ballot packet that accompanied the ballot
for the Election of new Board of Directors. Once again, if you are a professional
member and have not received your voting package, please call the IDEC office
and let us know. If you have received the information, please fax back your
ballot as soon as possible. The last day to vote is October 27, 2006

| A
Call for Corporate Sponsors |
One of the major member benefits offered to IDEC members is the
Annual Conference. The 2007 International Conference to be held in Austin,
Texas will be second to none! The main office is in the process of trying
to secure corporate sponsors who would help underwrite major portions of
the conference to keep it affordable for the membership. Because the IDEC
membership is world-wide, we are very aware that you may indeed have strong
relationships with local industry affiliates and manufacturers in the interior
design profession. Please consider making an introduction of your industry
contacts to the IDEC Main Offices. For more information please contact
Jody Larsen at jlarsen@idec.org.

| IDEC

applications, and selection criteria click on the following link or

Annual Conference Auction Alert! |
A longstanding tradition of the Annual IDEC Conference
is returning with the Austin Conference. Conference planners are gearing
up for the annual auction which historically raises funds for student
scholarships. A Steelcase Think Chair and a Walnut Stool from Herman
Miller are the first items committed for this fundraiser. Erli
Gronberg who is soliciting items for a conference fundraiser would
love to hear what item you have secured for the auction.
Also, we encourage each school unit to begin assembling
a great basket of “goodies” unique to your school or region
(ie, all orange products from Florida!) and these will be raffled off at
the time of the auction. Join the fun! Participate!
