1. Annual Conference. IDEC sponsors an annual conference that promotes and encourages dialogue through speakers, reports, seminars, tours and exhibits. This conference provides the opportunity for members to present research and exchange teaching methods. Presentations are juried before acceptance. There are no fees to IDEC members for processing and presenting papers. Business meetings are also scheduled during the annual conference.
      
  2. Regional Conferences. Smaller group meetings are held annually in the five IDEC regions to encourage student, faculty, and professional interaction.
      
  3. e-RECORD. The IDEC RECORD is now the e-RECORD, an electronic newsletter that provides members with current information about IDEC activities and other items of interest.
      
  4. Journal of Interior Design. This refereed journal is published semi-annually. Subscription fees are included in the annual membership dues. Inquiries concerning subscriptions for non-members and institutions and the submission of papers for publication should be directed to the editor.
      
  5. Juried Exhibition. The exhibition at the annual conference is limited to IDEC members and Interior Design educators. It provides educators the opportunity to submit work of the following types: interior installations, conceptual interiors, and visual arts. An award is presented to the best entry in each category.
      
  6. Placement. An up-to-date listing of position openings in Interior Design education is available on the IDEC website.
      
  7. Career Guidance. IDEC has developed an “Interior Design Career Guide” for sale to universities and career guidance counselors and students. Information and orders are handled through the IDEC office.
      
  8. Educational Innovation and Improvement. IDEC provides a forum to exchange information on educational methods and materials. IDEC advises and assists professional interior designers in continuing education activities.
      
  9. Tenure and Promotion. IDEC has prepared a position paper on criteria for evaluation on Interior Design faculty for tenure and promotion in baccalaureate programs. IDEC also manages a process for external review to be used for appointment, tenure, promotion, or degree equivalency.
      
  10. Networking. fourteen networks currently provide opportunities to exchange specialized information among IDEC members.

  11. NCIDQ. The National Council for Interior Design Qualification administers a written and practical Interior Design examination that is prerequisite for membership in those professional organizations whose members practice interior design. IDEC was a founding member and continues active participation on the NCIDQ Board.
      
  12. IFI. The International Federation of Interior Designers is composed of professional member organizations of Interior Design throughout the world. IDEC has been an associate member of IFI since 1976.
      
  13. CIDA. Council for Interior Design Accreditation is the officially recognized body for the accreditation of interior design programs in schools and colleges. IDEC was a founding member of CIDA. It has trustee representation on the CIDA Board and actively participates in the accreditation process.
