Faculty who have submitted an abstract of interest to the JID Special Issue or those who are interested in pursuing journal-based venues for publishing Creative Scholarship should consider attending this highly informative, thought-provoking and engaging workshop.

Inaugural Community Service Outreach Charrette

Join IDEC's Environmental Gerontology Network for a community service outreach initiative: an exploratory design charrette during which we will develop design solutions for a space in an independent living residence for older adults. CJE Senior Life and the Weinberg Community for Senior Living in Chicago has partnered with us for this initiative.

This workshop, a four hour design charrette that could be replicated for your students, will start with a conversation to identify and define the design problems presented to us, then graduate to a hands-on activity where attendees will work in small groups to address the issues with concept and design sketches, followed by discussing the suggestions.

The design problem presented to us comes from The Weinberg Community, a senior community consisting of 125 apartments and located in Deerfield, Illinois. In this project, we will will consider the furniture, material and color selection of the main lobby. We will also assess the floor plan of the lobby itself and work together to provide a smaller section of privacy in the lobby for some residents.

As a professional organization, IDEC has much to offer in giving back to the design community at large. Join us to leave a design footprint, make an impact as a design teaching professional in the community in which we gather for our annual meeting. Materials to sketch and express your ideas will be provided. Or bring your digital devices to express your self. Afternoon refreshments will be sponsored by Mohawk, Pressalit/Spargo, Delos and Shaw Contract.

Date: Saturday, March 11
Time: 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Cost: Free for Annual Conference attendees
