MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT JILL PABLE

Dear IDEC Colleagues,

I hope this note finds you easing in to the end of your semester or quarter as you hope. December sometimes seems to prompt reflection on the year's experiences, and this is no exception for the IDEC Board.

Thanks to the strength of the IDEC volunteers, IDEC is continuing to thrive, now at over 750 members strong. Such growth is good, but also makes us mindful of maintaining the personal-level collegiality that we cherish. Growth also can prompt a reconsideration of procedures as the number of IDEC initiatives and services expands. With this in mind, the IDEC Board is currently contemplating a modest reorganization of IDEC's many groups with several overarching goals in mind:

  • bring further emphasis to our collective commitment to grassroots ideation and participation;
  • broaden opportunities for volunteering in IDEC;
  • nurture the growth of future IDEC leaders; and,
  • bring further efficiency to IDEC's teaching, scholarship and service functions.

We will seek your advice and reflection on this idea soon, and are excited at the prospective advantages this may bring to us all and to our quest for education and research excellence.

In the meantime, on behalf of myself and the IDEC Board, I wish you a peaceful and rejuvenating holiday season.

Respectfully submitted,

SIGNATURE_jillpable.tif

Jill Pable, IDEC President

The Art of Applied Design
The DHM Digital Gallery invites designers working in fiber, clay, wood, metal or glass and plastic to participate in The Art of Applied Design, an international juried competition. Deadline for entry is July 15, 2010. All submitted works must be functional objects commonly used within interior spaces, such as furnishings (hard or soft), utensils, fixtures or containers. Objects that are purely decorative are not eligible. Evaluation will be based upon uniqueness and creativity, craftsmanship and quality of the submitted digital image. The online exhibit (from Sept. 15 to Dec. 1, 2010) will include e-mail addresses of accepted artists to facilitate independent sales of work. For a prospectus and entry form, visit http://ches.okstate.edu/dhm/gallery.
Interior Design Education Video Competition

YOU are invited to take part in an interior design student and educator video event that celebrates your preparation to be an interior design professional and informs others about the value of your skills.

Thousands of students and practicing interior designers across North America and other counties are currently pursuing or have completed education and examination requirements that fully prepare them to practice and to protect the public's health, safety and welfare. Yet, the public nor other design professionals do not always fully understand this, nor do prospective interior design students.

This is your opportunity to create and share a short video with the public from your point of view that celebrates and explains the importance of established interior design education and examination standards you are participating in—and that prepares you to assist the public as an interior design professional.
