IDEC Interior Design Teaching Resources

ASSISTING THE EDUCATOR

The Interior Design Teaching Resources is a resource for interior design educators.  It includes a database of assignments, projects, and exercises that can inspire the instructor, thus encouraging alternative and innovate ways to engage students. In the 1990s, the Innovative Teaching Strategies project was cultivated by IDEC volunteers to assist educators in the same manner as the Interior Design Teaching Resource. This new initiative seeks to leverage technology by collecting and distributing the majority of the information to subscribers electronically. The format of the Resource is a refereed on-line publication with no honoraria paid to the authors of the assignmentsPackages are submitted as manuscripts that are subjected to reviewing and editing and copyright of the work will remain with the author.  The review process is double blind and allows on-line submission of all documents so that the reviewers can view them easily at any time. A fee for each project is in place to recuperate the costs of maintaining the initiative on-line, administrative activities, and to underwrite other IDEC endeavors.

Mission:

The IDEC Interior Design Teaching Resources will strive to support IDEC’s education goals by providing diverse and engaging teaching and learning information that assists interior design educators.

Goals:

To create a resource that will support, inspire, and engage interior design educators by:

  • Providing a wide variety of assignments and projects that have been examined through an established, rigorous, peer-reviewed process;
  • Encouraging and advancing good teaching / best-practice teaching methods; and
  • Activating initiatives to promote the formal and informal exchange of diverse ideas, thoughts and practices that can enable us to prepare our students for the demands and expectations of the profession.
