"I believe that not only must we do our best, but we must be the best at everything we do."
Dan Hendrix, Interface President and Chief Executive Officer

This year we honor InterfaceFLOR with an IDEC INDUSTRY MERIT AWARD. This philosophy of achievement through excellence as exemplified by the quote from Dan Hendrix is at the heart of Interface's past and future success. And with the challenge to become not only "the first name in commercial and institutional interiors worldwide," but also a sustainable corporation by 2020, Interface has set itself a challenging goal.

While Interface is noted in its industry for its commitment to high quality design and innovation, the company is recognized as a leader in the green business movement. Anderson heightened the company's awareness and led changes in technology in an effort to move toward being environmentally sustainable. He believes that if Interface, a petro-intensive company, can get it right, it will never have to take another drop of oil from the earth. The philosophy guiding his passion for this cause is simply that it is not only the right thing to do, but the smart thing, too.

Aside from this critical commitment to sustainability, InterfaceFlor has been a heavy supporter of design education at the grassroots level. Many of our institutional advisory boards have representation from Interface. Dan Hendrix, the corporate President and CEO sits on my Florida State University interior design advisory board. Such help is invaluable in furthering the goals of design education, and we sincerely thank InterfaceFlor with this Industry Merit Award.

Nomination Form for Industry Merit Award

The Merit Award
The Merit Award honors meritorious service by an IDEC member or non-member to the Interior Design Educators Council or interior design education. It is intended to recognize sustained and notable contributions over and above that expected by virtue of appointment or relationship to IDEC. Priority will be given to recognizing meritorious contributions to IDEC. Any IDEC member in good standing can nominate a person for the Merit Award. Call for nominees is issued by the President in August. The completed application comprised of a completed form and reference letters are returned to the Main Office. The IDEC Board casts the deciding vote.
